Hilton Head Military Veterans Coalition
Background and Mission
The Military Veterans Coalition was founded in 2003 to represent all veterans living in the Hilton Head area. It is made up of the four largest military veterans organizations on the Island: the Hilton Head Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America; the Savannah/Hilton Head Council of the U.S. Navy League; American Legion Post 185; and American Legion Post 42. Its mission is to present the annual Memorial Day ceremony the last Monday of May and the Veterans Day observance every November 11th. These events are held at the Veterans Memorial located at Shelter Cove Community Park on Hilton Head Island.

The Town of Hilton Head has donated over $1,000,000 in land and improvements toward building the Memorial Park. The Military Veterans Coalition has raised nearly $150,000 to pay for the Memorial itself. The Memorial and Park were formally dedicated on Memorial Day 2006. Corporate sponsors, military organizations and individual donors have purchased inscribed memorial benches and bricks in memory of past and present service by men and women of our nation's Armed Forces.
The benches and bricks will continue to be available for purchase by anyone interested in remembering a veteran. Proceeds from the sale of the bricks and benches will be used in support of the Veterans Memorial and the charitable activities of the Military Veterans Coalition.
